Position Summary

The Animal Attendant is responsible for the daily care of all animals including cleaning, feeding, restraining, and assisting with veterinary procedures. Support the Assistant Manager or President in gathering necessary animals needed for each mobile job. Clean enclosure during each job and educating guests on all the animals or any other questions that may arise. Responsible for putting up and taking down temporary fencing, laying straw, putting up a canopy, setting up the pony wheel, saddling all ponies, hoof picking, and brushing.

Primary Duties

  1. Daily care of all animals including feeding, cleaning, and habitat maintenance.
  2. Assist in loading animals for each mobile job.
  3. Educating and communicating with customers of varying ages and abilities for each and every job.
  4. Building and taking down temporary panel fencing for each mobile job.
  5. Monitoring all animals before, during, and after each mobile job for behavior and health status.
  6. Assist in handling exotic animals during exotic educational shows.
  7. Cleaning trailers and equipment weekly.
  8. Help build and repair habitats.
  9. Assist supervisor in veterinary procedures, as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position is not responsible for supervising others.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Certifications, and Experience

Required:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience using basic hand tools and power tools
  • Daytime, evening, and weekend availability
  • Position is subject to drug and alcohol testing as required by company policy
Preferred:
  • Bachelors of Science in Biology, Zoology, Veterinary Science, or a related field, or working towards a degree.
  • 1 year animal experience with hoofstock, mammals, birds, and reptiles.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for supervising part-time, non-exempt employees.
Number of individuals supervised: 1-5

QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Certifications, and Experience

Required:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • At least one year of related experience, including at least one year in a team leadership or supervisory capacity.
  • Experience using basic hand tools and power tools
  • Daytime, evening, and weekend availability
  • Must have valid driver's license and meet A Zoo to You’s insurance requirements
  • Position is subject to drug and alcohol testing as required by company policy
Preferred:
  • Bachelors of Science in Biology, Zoology, Veterinary Science, or a related field, or working towards a degree.
  • 1-year of animal experience with hoofstock, mammals, birds, and reptiles.
  • Experience driving a pickup truck and towing bumper livestock trailers or similar.
